Manchester continued their charge towards the knockout stages of
the Champions League, picking up another win against Borussia Dortmund. This
match marked the 6th time that the Cityzens have come back from a deficit since
their loss to Real Madrid in the UCL semi-finals. It seems that Pep Guardiola
has picked up a few key tricks from Real Madrid’s run in the UCL last year. The
highlights of the match were Joao Cancelo and Haaland for the Cityzens and Jude
Bellingham and Mats Hummels for Dortmund, as the Sky Blues secured a 2-1 win
against the Dortmund side.
1. Kung-fu Haaland:
Erling Haaland was once again on the scoresheet as he continued
his excellent run of form with 13 goals in 9 matches. Haaland has managed to
silence his haters as he eyes the golden boot and possibly the premier league
goal scoring record. He managed to score in spectacular fashion against his
former team as he netted a goal that was reminiscent of Johann Cruyff and
Zlatan Ibrahimovic. It's safe to say that Haaland will look to carry forward
his form throughout the season and, with the Norwegian in this form, it is
tough to name a side, except arguably Bayern, who could stop this machine.
2. Superstars of tomorrow:
On the night, we were fortunate enough to witness arguably 2 of
the greatest talents in world football go head-to-head. Jude Bellingham and
Erling Haaland did not fail to disappoint, with both getting their names on the
scoresheet. The Englishman displayed some truly phenomenal skill as he
orchestrated the majority of the counter-attacks of the German side. His ball
control and accurate and level-headed passing was delightful as he was one of
the standout performers of the night. Erling Haaland on the other hand was able
to score a magnificent acrobatic goal from a Joao Cancelo cross and help
Manchester city pull ahead in this tightly contested match.
3. John Stones’ stunner:
When John Stones received the ball roughly 30 yards from the
goal, nobody expected him to take the shot much less score. The centre back
measured his chances and believed that this was the right opportunity to awaken
his inner Vincent Kompany and score an absolute blinder that got them back in
the game. Although the Dortmund keeper arguably should have done better, it was
still a phenomenal strike that brought the Cityzens back into the game.
