Real Madrid took on Manchester City at the Etihad in a thrilling clash that ended 4-3 despite the hosts dominating most of the game and having a number of chances to increase their lead. The clash was the epitome of exciting, attacking football.
Here's what we made of Real's performance on the night:
Thibaut
Courtois (6/10): The Belgian conceded four goals, but could not really blamed
for any of them, except perhaps for the fourth, where Courtois was caught napping
by Bernardo Silva’s ferocious strike.
Ferland
Mendy (5.5/10): Mendy made quite a few errors at the back and was beaten a
number of times by City’s strong attack. He did, however, provide the assist
for Benzema’s opener.
David
Alaba(5/10): David Alaba was playing injured which probably led to his poor
performance in the game. A mistake by him cost Madrid a second goal within 11
minutes. He was substituted off.
Eder
Militao (5/10): Militao struggled against City’s fluid attacking trio. The
constant attacks left him and the defence confused and his performance was
poor.
Dani Carvajal (5/10): The Spaniard didn’t have hold of his flank and was struggling
as he was overloaded on his flank without much support.
Toni
Kroos(6/10): Toni Kroos did not have a strong defensive performance either. He
seemed tired towards the latter half of the game. He could not put up his regular
performance in this game.
Luka
Modric(7/10): One of Madrid’s better players of the night, Luka Modric took
some time to pick up momentum, but once he did, his game looked very
progressive and some of his passes were commendable. A decent night for the
Croatian.
Fede
Valverde (6.5/10): After taking some time to catch rhythm, Valverde had a
decent game and showed intent while playing on the wing. He made a few good
passes as well.
Rodrygo
Goes (5/10): Rodrygo found it hard to adapt during this game. He wasn’t quite
effective in the attack but did play deep at times to help in defence.
Vinicius
Jr.(7.5/10): Vinicius played with intent and found the back of the net in what
was a brilliant goal. The Brazilian showed great pace and skill to trouble
Fernandinho down the Madrid’s left flank.
Karim
Benzema( 8/10): Although he struggled initially, Benzema scored a great first
goal, giving his team hope. The Frenchman then kept calm in the dying minutes
to Panenka a penalty to bring the gap down to one and keep Madrid in the game.
Substitutes:
Nacho (5/10): Nacho struggled to defend well in this
game and found it hard to adapt.
Camavinga (6/10): Camavinga played well, with intent
and positive attacking.
Dani Ceballos (6/10): He brought in a pair of fresh
legs which helped in the pace of Madrid’s overall game.
Marco Asensio(N/A).
