On Sunday night, Chelsea took on Liverpool in a blockbuster clash at Stamford Bridge. The game got off to a fiery start, with Sadio Mane being booked within the first 30 seconds. Christian Pulisic was gifted by Trent Alexander-Arnold, but failed to round the keeper, before Sadio Mane put away a similar chance at the expense of Trevoh Chalobah. A delightful lobbed pass from Trent then caught out the Chelsea defence, and sent Mo Salah through. A body feint got him past Marcos Alonso and he beat Mendy at the near-post to double the lead. Chelsea struck back through a brilliant volley from Mateo Kovacic. Five minutes later, just before half-time, Pulisic equalized, after N'golo Kante's pass caught the Liverpool defence flat-footed. Both keepers were on top form, keeping the opposition at bay with some brilliant saves. In this article, we take a look at the player ratings from the game which was drawn between Chelsea and Liverpool, but was won by Manchester City:

LIVERPOOL

Sadio Mane 8 - He received an early booking but scored a great goal and almost set up another for Mo Salah.

Mo Salah 8 - Continuing his fine form, he deceived both Mendy and Marcos Alonso , curling in a superb strike at the near post. He could have had a few more but was denied by some world class goalkeeping and the dreaded offside flag.

Diogo Jota 6 - Linked up well with his strike partners and was once again a major threat in the air for the Reds. However, couldn’t really get a sight on goal.

Jordan Henderson 5 - Played some gorgeous passes out to the wings but got caught on the ball on a couple of occasions.

James Milner 4- Failed to have a major impact on the game and was substituted for Naby Keita nearing the hour mark.

Fabinho 4 - Gave the ball away cheaply and was sloppy in possession. Looked unusually sluggish and slow.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 7 - Set up Salah's beautiful goal with a beautiful, delicate pass. Made a mistake in the 1st half which nearly gifted Christian Pulisic a goal, but apart from that was his usual brilliant self.

Ibrahima Konate 6 - Was a nuisance in the opposing box and was decent with his distribution. Kept Havertz and Pulisic quiet for the most part.

Virgil Van Dijk 5 - Kept Havertz quiet but could have been quicker to cover his partners for the second goal.

Kostas Tsimikas 6- Played well in the absence of Andy Robertson (suspended) and whipped in some delightful crosses. Handled the Chelsea attack on his side well.

Caoimhin Kelleher 9- Denied Pulisic when one on one, and made a spectacular reaction stop on the American’s volley. Overall distribution was good as well. Proved his quality when called up to play on short notice, in only his 4th Premier League start. MOTM

CHELSEA

Mason Mount 5 - Stringed together some great passes but was well taken care of by Milner and Tsimikas. Failed to reach his best, but his work rate was impressive as usual.

Christian Pulisic 7 - Missed a glorious chance by trying to round Kelleher and did get booked, but made up for it by equalizing for the Blues right at the interval with an impressive finish.

Kai Havertz 4 - failed to have a major impact on the game in the absence of poacher Romelu Lukaku, who, honestly, had a better game from the stands than the German did on the pitch.

Cesar Azpilicueta 6 - Captained the team well and made some lovely overlapping runs.

Mateo Kovacic 9 – Scored a screamer with wonderful technique, and kept Chelsea ticking with his distribution and pace setting.

N’golo Kante 8 - Once again, was everywhere and his vision created Chelsea's second goal, as he sent Pulisic through on goal with a great pass.

Marcos Alonso 6 - Got beyond Trent quite often and almost scored a fantastic volley. However, he was defensively suspect and struggled against Mo Salah and Trent.

Thiago Silva 6- In the middle of the defence, he kept things tight and helped Chalobah through the game. Was imperious in possession.

Trevoh Chalobah 3 - His error led to Liverpool's first goal and he made some poor decisions in defence.

Antonio Rudiger 5- Kept Salah quiet in the second half and was aggressive as always, however he was caught out of position for a few dangerous attacks, including the second goal.

Edouard Mendy 6 - The ' Senegalese Spiderman ' proved his worth by saving some goal-bound shots, including an exceptional save off Salah. However, was rounded too easily by Sadio Mane and fooled too easily by Mo Salah for the second. Improved massively in the second half.
