MANCHESTER CITY WIN AGAINST DEFIANT BRENTFORD

Manchester City extended their lead to 8 points at the top
of the Premier League table with yet another win, this time over Brentford.
This latest victory brings City’s winning streak to 10 straight games. The
Cityzens have been absolutely dazzling lately, and it does not seem like they
will have any challengers for the Premier League crown. However, this is not to
say that they simply rolled over Brentford: the Bees put up a valiant fight
against City’s machine.
1. 1. PHIL
FODEN. ENGLAND’S MOST PROMISING? Phil Foden is absolutely living up to the
hype generated around him as one of England’s leaders of the next generation.
The youngster has been excellent on the left side of City’s attack, racking up
5 goals and 3 assists in just 13 games. His relatively low playing time has
been a mixture of injuries and so-called “Pep Roulette”, but the youngster is
showing his class, and we cannot wait to see more of him.
2. 2. KDB’S
BACK: For a while after his return from Covid-19 and injury, the Belgian
looked off-pace and rusty. But now City’s Ginger Pele is starting to weave his
magic once again. He has been excellent in recent games, and is showing why he
is considered one of the greatest passers and minds in world football,
assisting Foden and Laporte (goal ruled out). Against Brentford, De Bruyne,
alongside Phil Foden, was one of the standout players in what was an otherwise
lacklustre City team.
3. 3. BRENTFORD
HERE TO STAY? Newcomers Brentford started off the season with a bang, beginning with an impressive 2-0 win over Arsenal. However, they suffered a
recent slump, losing to both Norwich, Brighton and Burnley in a disappointing
run of games. However, their performances have picked up again, and they gave
City a tough time. They were the fastest out of the blocks, putting Ederson to
work, and were only denied the opener by Cancelo’s goal line clearance. 53
seconds later, they conceded.
4. 4. VAR
CONTROVERSY: Following an offseason change in the offside rules, fans were
optimistic of better decision-making by match officials. And for the first 4
months, the Premier League has been relatively controversy-free. Harry Kane’s
goal was controversially disallowed, and now Aymeric Laporte was ruled offside
for City’s second by a hair’s breadth, while Foden’s was allowed by a similar
margin. It wouldn’t be the Premier League without a little controversy, now
would it?
